Why attend this retreat?
For many reasons: community of similar experience, activities to tend and move your grief, experiential sessions to learn new ways to process your grief, and the myriad evidence-based healing health and wellbeing benefits. During this day of therapeutic synergy, the practices’ commonalities are that each:
-
slows and settles the monkey or rational mind
-
resets the nervous system, decreasing stress hormones and the overall parasympathetic stress response (“fight, flight, freeze”)
-
creates space that’s safe, open, flexible, apart from daily life
-
activates the sympathetic nervous system to foster a state of “rest, digest and heal”
-
grounds you in the present moment
-
reconnects you with self, resilience, stretching, softening, and ways to let the light in

How does the day unfold?
We have planned the day to have continuous flow, ebbing in and out of practices that support
The day flows from a welcoming overview session into the days’ experiences, both indoors and outside. We will take short breaks between experiences. Lunch will be set out indoors and enjoyed outside or inside the barn. From there we’ll move into the afternoon’s experiences and closing circle. Activities, in general, will flow in a way that works best with the day’s weather.
I may attend alone? Will that be awkward?
Many attend by themselves, while others join in with a friend or family. All are welcome.
What can I expect, how will I be supported, and what will I come away with?
An unfolding of comfort and self-care, practices and a peaceful setting that tends your grief, plus support from the hosts and others in attendance as we gather and share. Animals help as well, kittens, dog, goats, cows. The farmette backs up to a private woods, and is a private location that allows us to come as we are and find healing.
Will there be time to connect with other attendees?
Yes, there is time between each practice during the retreat. Most practices also include the opportunity to share with others.
What about the weather?
The retreat is hosted inside a charming little barn and also outdoors, with nature. Please dress for the weather, as nature therapy is hosted outside rain or shine. If it looks like rain, bring a raincoat and shoes or boots that can get wet and a bit dirty! In the event of severe weather, we will reshuffle retreat events until the weather passes, or stay cozy inside the barn.
What should I wear and bring?
Dress comfortably! We will move our bodies gently during certain experiences. Layers work well. Feel free to bring a light blanket if you feel you will need one.
What about lunch?
We serve a nutritious meal that nurtures and supports our immune function, as our grief journeys can affect our health and wellbeing. Have a food allergy or sensitivity? We will do our best to support you with safe food options. You can let us know your special details on the guest questionnaire you will receive after registering, and we will be in touch with questions.
