About the event

Experience a morning connecting with Nature on this Shinrin-Yoku, or "Forest Bathing", walk with Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide Kate Bast, founder of Shinrin-Yoku Madison on the International Day of Forest Bathing!

Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese term and experience, moves slowly and silently upon the land, trying not to interrupt nature and to drop into the experience. You will receive prompts, or invitations, for nature connection along the way. The invitations activate the senses and help you connect with the felt sense of the moment. We we are alive in our senses, we are alive in the present moment, and all else slips away. You also will learn about nature's healing benefits -- myriad, and evidence-based, for those who like to understand the science behind why nature simply makes us feel good. We feel calm, less stressed , rested and refreshed as our parasympathetic nervous system response is amplified.

To participate and access the park, you will need to have or purchase an 2024 State Park Sticker or day pass at the Ranger station at the park entrance. You also can purchase them online, or check out a pass from your library.

The walk starts from the boat launch area, though you will need to park in the main lot and make a short walk down. We will proceed along the Woodland Trail loop, which is gently rolling with some hills. Please bring walking sticks if you need. The trail is not accessible.

Please dress for the weather! Layers are best. Be sure they can get a bit dirty as we sit or lay on the ground. Long pants and shirts help protect from bugs and sun. Comfortable shoes help you manage the trail. Bring your own sunscreen and bugspray if you'd like - as well as a full water bottle.

Arrive and park by 9:45 am. The walk starts promptly at 10am, and beings with an introduction to Shinrin-Yoku and nature's benefits. Age 18+

After registering for the walk, you will receive links to a Participant Awareness Agreement and a Health Awareness form. Attendees are required to review and sign to participate.

Advanced registration only. No drop-ins, which makes it hard to anticipate needs for the refreshment served at walk's end.

See you in the woods!
